KS3 Knowledge Organisers: PE

Knowledge Organisers in PE: A Foundation for Success

At St Bede’s, our PE knowledge organisers serve as a valuable tool for all Key Stage 3 students to review the sports they have undertaken and cover the key skills for success in these disciplines. These resources provide a comprehensive overview of the key concepts and skills associated with each sport studied throughout the three-year program. By focusing on a wide range of sports, including athletics, basketball, football, netball, orienteering to name a few, the knowledge organisers ensure that students have a strong foundation to build upon as they progress through their PE journey.

As students advance through Key Stage 3, they will cover each of the sports several times with increasing depth and complexity each year, reflecting the growing sophistication of their understanding and abilities. Therefore, the knowledge organisers apply to all three years of key stage 3, as they reflect the skills necessary to be a successful competitor in each discipline.

To ensure that all students have the opportunity to experience a variety of sports throughout the academic year, we employ a rotational approach based on the availability of sporting facilities. This means that students will typically focus on one or two sports in greater depth during each term, while still being exposed to other disciplines through shorter sessions or activities. This rotation system allows us to make the most of our resources and provide a well-rounded PE education for all students.

This gradual progression built up over key stage 3 allows students to develop their skills at a pace that suits their individual learning style, whilst also ensuring that they are well-prepared for future challenges in PE and beyond.
